DARPA Announces Team Grit as Qualified

Cog-Burn YayDARPA has announced Team Grit as a qualified! Cog-Burn our robot, will be one of 25 robots developed to provide assistance to humans in a disaster. There is also a $3.5 million worth of prizes for the top 3 teams. Finals will be on June 5th and 6th 2015 at Fairplex in Pomona, California.

Below is a video showing some improvements in the works to increase movement speeds, the speed is necessary to compete with the increased difficulty of the finals challenges.

The White Knight autonomous vehicles, along with lead programmer Karl Castleton, will be at the Delphi both during CES 2015. The booth is located in the Gold Parking lot booth NP-2 and is showing a progression of autonomous vehicles. If you at CES go and check it out, the vehicle is a piece of autonomous history.

Members of Grit, formerly Team Mojavaton, developed the Nissan Xterra for the 2005 DARPA Grand Challenge.

Computer Controlled Polaris XP 900 Steering

Computer Controlled Polaris XP 900 Steering – Grit Robotics working on a side project to make a self driving Polaris XP 900, this is a video showing the power steering being controlled by a computer using CAN messages. We have also tapped into the throttle controls and speed sensors and can send messages to have the vehicle accelerate.

Kairos Autonomi Visits Grit Robotics

Kairos Autonomi and Grit Robotics recently met up for friendly facility tours and to show off some of their projects. The two teams are competing in the DARPA Robotics Challenge to develop robots capable of assisting humans in responding to natural and man-made disasters. Kairos Autonomi has full autonomous vehicle kits that they produce for various organizations, similarly Grit Robotics has experience building self driving vehicles. Both teams competed in the DARPA Urban Challenge in 2005. Below are some photos of the teams checking out each others great work.

New Website!

Cog-Burn 3D ModelGrit Robotics just got an upgraded website! The site should now include more posts about what the Grit team is working on along with more updates about team members and Cog-Burn! While the site is live, it doesn’t mean we are done making all the changes so expect more updates and content to be added soon.
